Equality's a great idea - but it assumed we all start from the same place and that's simply not true...

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is ‘embrace equity’…
It’s about getting more people to talk about how people start from different places – so true inclusion is about equitable action.
Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities, while Equity recognises that each person has different circumstances, and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome.
At PartB we try to not only stop and listen when someone needs something – but we make a business of asking ourselves what we should give people too.
So what does equity look like to us?
- We have a fluid induction process. It’s not setin stone so we adapt and change how we introduce new starters to the business. We ask questions to ensure we’re introducing new employees to the company in away that helps them stay comfortable and productive.
- Flexible working. We talk about this one a lot because it helps so many of our team do what’s important to them. For one of our employees, that meant she was able to go and watch her boys play cricket –she worked remotely and took her laptop with her. The school run is a big part of the day for the PartB parents so taking that time out to be there with their kids is essential. For us flexible working isn’t so much a perk or a benefit, it’s been part of our culture from the day the business started.
- We’ve asked questions of our team that have helped us identify additional learning needs they didn’t know they needed. We’ve gone external to seek better support and understanding ourselves, as well as to help identify the tools and resources we need to give our team to help them do their job.
There are loads more ways we can embrace equity – and as a business, we’re listening and looking out for them.
Finally, a word about the wonderful women who work at PartB. They operate in every corner of the business - from leading technical teams and championing business development to handling client projects, finances, leading brand strategy, quality processes, as well as marketing content creation. We could not function without their leadership, ideas and hard work.
